NOVEMBERTAGUNG CONFERENCE, 29th edition

We are pleased to announce that the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Seville (IMUS) will host, on site, the Novembertagung on the History of Mathematics 2018.

The Novembertagung on the History of Mathematics is an annual international conference aimed at PhD and postdoctoral students in the history of mathematics and related fields. It provides an opportunity for them to present and discuss their research in an informal and safe environment, share experiences and advice and to establish new contacts.

The 29th Novembertagung will take place 28/11 - 30/11, 2018  in Seville, Spain.

Theme 

"History of Mathematical Concepts and Conceptual History of Mathematics​"

​

As the long tradition of the Novembertagung testifies, there are many ways to develop history of mathematics. In this edition, we would like to place the focus on ‘concepts’. We encourage submissions that engage with historical considerations of key concepts in mathematics, for example the development of the concept of number or the notion of group. Furthermore, we would like to inspire submissions guided by a conceptual approach to the history and philosophy of mathematics, e.g. how concepts acquire their meaning through their use, how changes in the use of concepts have an impact on a discipline, and so on.

   

The theme serves as a guide, not a criterion for exclusion; it is not necessary for a submission to engage with the theme to be accepted.

NEW INFORMATION: We will cover meals and accomodation for every participant during 3 days (November 28th, 29th and 30th, leaving on the 1st december-breakfast included).

REGISTRATION: Registration will take place a the Institute of Mathematics: Building Citius 2, 1st floor. But there will be posters with information over there.
